I had a hard time finding the rhythm of the rhymes in this book。 It would be a fun story for kids to act out。 The ending was a little weak。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 This book it a lovely length for either adults reading to children or for a child learning to read。 I suggest it for children in years 1 and 2 of Primary school to help with their reading。 The book is interesting， and has a moral to the story。 Anthropomorphic animals tell the tale of a rat tormenting them and stealing what they had。 It’s a fun and the illustrations are clear and support the story well。

I love Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler books。 The children love them too and we can make story sacks and plan activities around them。 I love the rhyming words and the repetition of certain lines that the children can remember and join in with the stories。 Last month we read The Snail and the Whale and had great fun learning about sea creatures， their habitats and how they live。 Highway Rat is this months book we are learning about various animals， caves， various foods - what is healthy and what I love Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler books。 The children love them too and we can make story sacks and plan activities around them。 I love the rhyming words and the repetition of certain lines that the children can remember and join in with the stories。 Last month we read The Snail and the Whale and had great fun learning about sea creatures， their habitats and how they live。 Highway Rat is this months book we are learning about various animals， caves， various foods - what is healthy and what is full of sugar etc。 We have made images of the characters and put them on extra wide sticks （like ice lolly sticks but wider） to get the children to engage and enact the story， purchased Highway Rat puzzles， memory/matching cards， stickers and activity books， searched the web and downloaded other ideas for activities too。。。。。all ensuring the children have an all round learning experience。Next months book is obviously Room on the Broom which fits in nicely with Halloween so currently searching for ideas for that。If you have young children I cannot recommend Donaldson/Scheffler books enough， trust me when I say your children will love them and so will you！I have logged this as read but will not put a reading date as I don’t want it to affect my reading challenge。 read September 2020。 。。。more

Another delightful instant classic by Donaldson （writer） and Scheffler （illustrator） as a pesky Highway Rat is stealing all the other animals sweets and pastries。Eventually the rat will get so bold that inevitably will lead to his downfall。A strong well written tale that is fun to read aloud， the drawings add an extra layer of enjoyable。
